Kugel is German for "ball". These heavy, thick-walled ornaments were first made in Germany in the mid - 1800s, with Lauscha as the best known center. The glass was blown, silvered on the inside for a mirror glow, and finished with a decorative metal cap. Grape clusters are among the most sought after Kugel forms.
