19th Century "Dancing Faun" Bronze Statue

$6,800.00

Call For Location | 203-325-8070

29.5" h x 12" w x 10" d

Dancing Faun is based on a Hellenistic statue that was discovered in early 1800’s, in the atrium of the ‘House of the Faun’ in Pompeii. Its fame was instantaneous … its first cataloger describing it as “the finest bronze to have been excavated at Pompeii and compared it to the Barberini Faun.” Artists who worked at the time in Italy witnessed an intense interest in bronze casts of ancient works, among wealthy art collectors who wanted their own versions of ancient art seen during their travels in Europe and Greece, known as the "grand tour." This particular Bronze example, however, takes this trend to a higher level, as it is of substantial scale and impeccable artistic quality

Condition : One finger on upraised hand missing.
