Vasa Murrhina footed vase in faux tortoise with gold mica hand blown glass
Circa: 1883-4Attractive Vasa Murrhina vase on foot with a cased interior. Buoyant gold mica flecks drift over tortoise shell, honey amber and coral shards that merge for a very pleasing effect. The Vasa Murrhina Art Glass Company, operating briefly in Sandwich, Massachusetts around 1883–1884, produced highly decorative "vessel of gems" art glass. Patented in 1884, this glass is characterized by embedded metallic mica flakes (silver, gold, or copper) and colored glass pieces within transparent, often cased, layers.
