Pre-Columbian Mayan Polychrome Pottery Bowl

Pre-Columbian Mayan polychrome pottery ceremonial copador effigy bowl, Guatemala or Southern Mexico, ca. 400-800 CE. Earthenware with red and brown pigment over an orange slip. Depicting a series of circular glyph figures interspersed by cross-hatched ground. The rim decorated with a band of thin red layered lines, alternating from red to brown and linear to sinuous in form. Similar in form and style to 'Chinesco' pottery of the Nayarit (West Mexico) 'Shaft Tomb' tradition.
