"Family of 3 III" - 1976

Signed Donati (lower right) and countersigned, titled and dated by the artist on the back of the stretcher

Oil and sand relief on canvas – Excellent condition 40 ⅜ x 26 ⅝ in (102,5 x 67,5 cm) 41 ¼ x 27 ⅜ in framed (104,5 x 69,5 cm)

Beautiful custom-made, hand-crafted, natural oak floater frame with 22KT gold-leafed edges

This presented work gathers most of Donati’s signature’s style: The subject matter echoes with his surrealist past, the artist having said: “once a Surrealist, always a Surrealist”, as well as his calligraphic style and his passion for Native American symbols and artifacts. The rendering of the background also refers to the influence he drew from Rothko. Also, being a sculptor and liking space and texture, a third dimension is added to this canvas with the accumulation of sand into a sort of relief using his trademark technique.

 Literature: The artist is referenced in every major art dictionary and has been the subject of numerous monographies including: -Theodore F. Wolff: “Enrico Donati: Surrealism and Beyond”, 1996 - Dawn Ades and Ann Temkin: “Enrico Donati”, 2015  Selected public collections: Solomon R.
