19th century Chinese rosewood box with brass hinges, hasp and decorative mounts. Of unusual octagonal form, I've never seen one like it. The edges with beautiful brass cut out mounts, the body with brass nail head florets. Openwork brass hinges. All on a footed base. The interior is lined with paper covered in Chinese characters, with a removable tray. A design as successful and appealing as it is unique. Circa 1890.
