Antiquarian at Greenwich
A Rare Matched Pair of Matching Grayware Chinese Fanghu Jars
These exceptional Han Dynasty Fanghu jars represent some of the finest examples of Western Han craftsmanship we’ve sourced at Avery and Dash Collections. Handcrafted from carefully shaped clay slabs around two thousand years ago, each jar showcases the refined elegance that defined this period. The distinctive ring-mask handles were inspired by archaic bronze vessels, giving these earthenware pieces a timeless sophistication.
Both jars are thermoluminescence tested for authenticity. One retains its original lid. Minor wear includes a shallow rim chip on one jar and a mid-section repair on the other, details that speak to their age and journey. Despite these marks, both remain in excellent condition, ready to anchor any serious collection
