Frode Holm for Illums Bolighus Two-Door Teak Cabinet on Tapered Legs

$8,950.00

Call For Location | 203-325-8070

A refined exercise in Scandinavian restraint — warm teak animated by precisely cut vertical fluting that runs floor to ceiling across both doors, lending the cabinet a quiet architectural authority that rewards sustained attention.

Designed by Frode Holm for the celebrated Copenhagen design emporium Illums Bolighus, this two-door cabinet is a distinguished example of the refined Danish modernism that defined Scandinavian interiors at mid-century. Illums Bolighus — founded in 1925 and long regarded as Copenhagen's foremost purveyor of contemporary design — served as both retailer and collaborator to many of Denmark's finest furniture designers, producing work of consistent quality and understatement.

The cabinet's most distinctive feature is its vertical fluting, carved in disciplined register across both doors and carried through to the interior shelving. Far from merely decorative, the fluting gives the broad façade a sense of rhythm and movement — light falls differently at each hour of the day, animating the teak grain with shifting shadow. The tapering legs, connected by a low stretcher, lift the carcass with characteristic Danish elegance, keeping the piece visually weightless despite its generous scale.

In overall condition consistent with its age, with the teak having developed a rich, honeyed patina that only deepens its warmth. The original key hardware remains present at both doors.
