19th Century Anglo Indian Carving of an Elephant, a Tiger, a Serpent and a Rat

Mid 19th century Anglo Indian relief carving of a rat, and elephant riding on a snake or serpent and a tiger. With traces of gilding and remnants of a glass inlaid background. This is a wonderful naive folk art carving of animals, wonderfully out of scale, the rat is as large as the elephant which only adds to the charm. It is a fragment, perhaps from a circus wagon or structure. My favorite new acquisition, I love everything about it, the animals, the patina of age and use, the traces of gilding and glass bits. If you are looking for a singular piece that will bring a smile to your face, this is it.
