Planquette studied at “l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts” in Lille then in Paris under the tutelage of the Academic artist Cormon.
He made his debut at the highly competitive “Salon des Artistes Français” in 1894.
His career as a landscape and animal painter was highlighted by many awards: Mention of Honor in 1900, Medals in 1902 and 1905.
However, the most coveted award for an animal painter was the Rosa Bonheur Prize, which he received in 1912. Rosa Bonheur was the most achieved artist specializing in lifelike depictions of animals of the 19th Century (and remembered as the painter of her friend Buffalo Bill‘s Wild West Show when he toured Europe with it).
Planquette always painted his French countryside poetic vistas on location. He was acclaimed for his unique ability to include animals harmoniously in the reality of the landscape, in the tradition of the Barbizon School.
His brushwork, easy and large, relentlessly modeled sheep or cows in the light of a hazy morning or a golden sunset.

The artist work is exhibited in several European Fine Art museums: Arras, France; Köln, Germany; as well as in the USA in San Francisco.
