Arthur GUE (French, 1857-1916) "Rocky Shore on the Atlantic Coast" Signed Arthur Gu̩e lower left Oil on board.

Excellent condition 19th century gilded Barbizon style French frame A. Gu̩e studied under the tutelage of the renowned Parisian street scene painter Luigi Loir. The artist was admitted to participate in the highly selective Salon des Artistes Fran̤cais and was awarded the Mention of Honor in1906. From 1907 on, he was a member of the Jury. A. Gu̩e split his life between Paris and his birthplace Poitiers, a beautiful provincial city. In Paris, the artist made a successful living as a painter of animated Parisian vistas, following his master's footsteps. In Poitiers, Gu̩e dedicated his work to depicting landscapes painted in the open-air. The proximity of Poitiers to the Atlantic coast lead him to paint various views of the ocean and local beaches. With an impressionistic style, a vivid palette, Gu̩e gave us his vision of the landscape where light firmly modeled its volumes.
