A set of six drawings by Charles Delaunay drawn in Paris night clubs in the 1930's. Shown are Freddy Johnson, Herman Chittison, Joe Turner, Coleman Hawkins and Louis Armstrong (who signed the sketch of him "O.K. Louis Armstrong.")
Delaunay was a born in Paris in 1911 the son of Sonia and Robert Delaunay, both influential French artists. He founded "Jazz Hot", one of the first jazz magazines. He formed the "Swing" label in 1937 which recorded many important jazz sessions in Europe. The six portraits are all slightly differing sizes, ranging from heights of between 26 and 29 inches and widths of between 20.5 and 25 inches. Circa 1933-1934.
