Handsome large scale 19th century French Bouillotte table in mahogany with marble top surrounded by a pierced brass gallery. Two drawers and two leather covered slides for playing the card game, bouillotte. The reeded legs resting on brass casters. Stretchers joined by a round tier that can accommodate a vase or planter. The perfect size and height for a center table or distinct side table. Bouillotte is an 18th century French gambling card game of the revolution based on Brelan, very popular during the 19th century in France and again for some years from 1830. It was also popular in America. The game is regarded as one of the games that influenced the open-card stud variation in poker. Label on underside: Bedel & Cie, 18 Rue Ste Augustin, Paris. Circa 1840's. Recently restored and polished.
