A mid 19th Century folk art trade sign of demilune form, depicting a Native American chief holding a peace pipe and tomahawk wearing a headdress of white and red feathers, wearing a decorated tunic, supported by “s” scrolls, possibly a cover for a paddle boat wheel, the whole within a molded frame and retaining much original paint. Provenance – recently discovered in a storage room at Oxford University, the contents of which were mostly wrapped in 1920’s newspaper, presumably stored at that time.
