Large English Highback Windsor Armchair

A large well proportioned highback Windsor armchair in elm, oak and yew woods. England, late 18th century. The chair features a classic highback Windsor form with a vase/urn-shaped central splat repeated in both the upper crest rail section and the lower back rail, surrounded by turned spindles. The arms are bentwood, the seat is a solid shaped saddle seat, the legs are cabriole-style with pad feet, and the front stretcher is a turned cross-rail. Construction is in a combination of elmwood, oakwood, and yew, typical of English Windsor chair making of the period.
