Large Meiji Period Hibachi A large inlaid paulownia wood Japanese hibachi of the Meiji Period ( late 19th Century ). fashioned from a segment of a large tree trunk, the irregular sides decorated in gilt hiramakie, takamakie and inlay of mother-of-pearl with blossoming iris, some partially obscuring a plank bridge spanning swirling eddies, the hollowed interior with a copper liner ( diameter = 22.25" ).
