Wonderful mid-century Peruvian rosewood box with a sterling silver framed lid. The lid made up of a charming piece of Chancay culture textile depicting a row of four birds or ducks in amusing aspect. I've always found these early textiles to be utterly endearing, the depictions of the ducks so immediate and amusing, even a bit cartoon like. The red dyed background and geometric border only highlight this enchanting scene. The rosewood box purchased in Lima by a New York collector in the 1960s. The silver hallmarked Peru 925. The textile Chancay culture 1000-1450 AD.
