Christian Krekels Engraved Brass Coffee Table

A striking coffee table by Belgian sculptor and designer Christian Krekels, whose acid-etched brass surfaces remain among the most distinctive expressions of 1970s Belgian design. Trained at the Institut des Arts Saint-Luc in Tournai, Krekels began his career working with diamonds and precious stones before turning to sculpture and furniture, developing a signature technique of engraving brass with fluid, topographic lines and radiating sunburst medallions.

This example presents a rectangular top worked in Krekels' hallmark abstract landscape motif — meandering contour lines interspersed with disc-shaped sunburst reserves — set within a polished chrome edge band and raised on a substantial ebonized plinth base. The top is signed and dated by the artist.
