Pair 18th Italian Century Carved Silver Gilt Two Handled Urns

Pair of 18th century Italian silver gilt two handle urns. These lovely urns are evocative of an earlier era with the worn rich patina that only comes from age and use. These likely held palmettos, brass or wood palm fronds, and were decorations in a church or cathedral. They can be used to hold dried florals or as elegant decorative elements. Perfect for the mantelpiece or on display on any surface. Because these were meant to be viewed from the front, the backs have only gesso, no silver. I fine them appealing in a singular way, as 'ghost urns', the shadow side.   Circa 1790 - 1800
